ZOOM 121 BEHAVIOURAL CONSULTATION

In the initial behavioural consultation via zoom we can discuss in great depth all the problems you are having with your dog. I can ask any follow up questions and we can really get the bigger picture for your dog and ensure we are setting those foundations up correctly.

Solid foundations will make the rest of the process run smoothly. By collecting information on your dog as an individual, I can tailor the activities and training to your dog- meaning far more chances of success compared with what could be offered without that information.

By having this session on Zoom it is easy to incorporate into your schedule and i can see your dog in their normal environment. Once we have had a chat and got all of the information out there, we can then begin on the behaviour plan and training you will need to do.

I will demo you activities with one of my dogs live, or use youtube to show you an activity. You can then train live with me so that your dog understands the task and I can coach you through this.

Your behaviour plan will outline any changes you may need to make to your routine, feeding changes, exercise tweaks and how the plan will take your dog going forward. Your plan is unique to you and your dog and you will receive a copy of that after the session.

The 121 in person sessions will be held at locations around the West End/ Uphill Lincoln depending upon your dog. These will be aimed at putting skills into practice and handling them in the real world, rather than an artificial environment.

These sessions are 1 hour long and I will coach you and your dog through various activities.

This is an opportunity to learn to read your dogs body language, learn lead handling skills and what to do in various situations.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DON’T YOU NEED TO SEE MY DOG REACTING?

I am often asked this and - No I honestly don’t need to see your dog reacting to triggers!
Reactivity is a common issue and the problem is that very often after a reactive episode, your dog will not be in a frame of mind to learn. Making actual training much much harder.

The goal of training is to ensure you and your dog are not stressed- so having the initial consult via zoom ensures that this dogs are relaxed and in a frame of mind to learn what it is we DO want them to do.

WHY ZOOM AS A STARTING POINT?

Owners often report they are far more relaxed during a 121 via zoom as they are not having to control their dogs behaviour and try and take in new information.

It is convenient and can be much more easily slotted into your schedule, making it quick and easy to get started with your dog and their behaviour problems.

It allows us to work at your dogs pace without pressure from outside distractions.

DO YOU OFFER 1 OFF REACTIVITY SESSIONS?

As a starting point I do NOT offer 1 off reactivity sessions. This is because reactivity is complex and takes time and commitment to resolve. It is NOT resolvable in a single session! Once you have completed the initial package, one off sessions may be an option for you and your dog to continue learning and training.

DO YOU OFFER CLASSES FOR REACTIVE DOGS?

I do not offer group classes solely for reactive dogs at this time. However when working with dogs and committed owners, very often we can become able to slot these reactive dogs into classes in a careful and well organised manner. This is often achievable for many reactive dogs that I work with.

WHY WEST END/ UPHILL LINCOLN AREAS?

Finding locations that are setup to allow your dog success can be challenging, but the locations in mind here are perfect for teaching your dog how to handle their triggers and allows opportunities to see triggers without reacting but in a real life way.

WHAT TRAINING METHODS DO YOU USE?

Zara only uses training methods that are modern, positive and science based. This means we find what motivates your dog and use that. For many dogs that be food, for others that may be toys, play or space. Outdated training techniques are NOT used or recommended. Meaning Zara will not work with : choke chains, shock collars, water sprays, citronella, lead corrections or shouting.
